Sigma - Benifit Realization Management

Our History

In 1986, Gerald Bradley pioneered an approach which became known as Benefit Management, to facilitate the realisation of benefits from investment in change.

Recognising ‘benefit realisation’ as the weakest link in the achievement of project success, Gerald developed the Benefit Realisation Management approach and formed sigma Consultancy, to make it available to organisations throughout industry and the public sector. Since then, we have refined and enhanced the approach, incorporating our experience of delivering practical solutions to our many blue chip and large public sector clients on a wide variety of projects.

We also developed a series of public seminars to provide training in Benefit Management, and to date, over 5000 UK managers have been trained in the application of the sigma Benefit Realisation Management approach.

Due to sigma's influence, many public and private sector organisations now recognise the important contribution that benefit realisation management makes in formulating their business strategy and in achieving their organisational goals:

  • sigma's Benefit Realisation Management techniques are now used at board level to define business strategy and set the vision for the organisation
  • The sigma structured approach to benefit realisation can be successfully integrated into other structured project and programme methodologies
  • Organisations are now serious about achieving benefits and no longer just using them for project justification
  • Benefit Management is more commonly applied to all change initiatives and no longer just confined to IT Projects
  • Benefit Management is being applied from ever earlier points in the change life-cycle, often from the concept stage
  • There is much greater recognition of the importance of non-financial benefits
  • The latest edition of OGC’s Managing Successful Programmes incorporates the sigma approach to Benefit Realisation Management
  • More organisations now focus on the measurement of benefits to demonstrate successful outcomes from projects and programmes

Over the years, our client list has grown to include many household names and Government departments. View our client list here>>
